2013 Kentucky Derby Betting Odds Update
The countdown has begun for the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby, which will be held under the historic twin spires at Churchill Downs on Saturday, May 4.
The likely field of 20 is nearly complete, with only this Saturday night’s Cliff’s Edge Derby Trial (G3) remaining as a Derby prep, with 20 points up for grabs to the winner.
The 20 points to the winner would be good enough to put the horse right on the bubble to get into the Run for the Roses. Of the likely field going on the opening night card feature at Churchill Downs, only the connections of Titletown Five have indicated that they would come back a week later and run in the Kentucky Derby.
Titletown Five is trained by hall of famer D. Wayne Lukas, who already will be saddling Oxbow and Will Take Charge in the Derby.
The busiest trainer on the first Saturday of May will be Todd Pletcher, who has five confirmed for the big dance.
The five time Eclipse Award winning trainer will saddle the likely betting favorite Verrazano, who closed at 4-1 in future betting at Bovada. The colt is undefeated in four starts, last out winning the Wood Memorial (G1) at Aqueduct.
Louisiana Derby (G2) winner Revolutionary, Arkansas Derby (G1) winner Overanalyze, Toyota Blue Grass (G1) runner up Palace Malice and Blue Grass third place finisher Charming Kitten round out the five.
Sitting on the bubble is Coolmore Lexington (G3) winner Winning Cause, who likely would get into the race if Pletcher wants to bring the colt back off a two week break. Pletcher indicated it is likely the colt would pass on the Derby, and could possibly show up two weeks later in the Preakness Stakes (G1) at Pimlico.
If you are looking for betting action on the Derby, Bovada offers up to a 5% rebate on all of your wagering. Horse bettors receive 3% of all straight bets (Win, Place and Show), and 5% on all exotic wagers (Quinella, Exacta, Trifecta, Superfecta, Daily Double, Pick 3, Pick 4, Boxes and Wheels).
Bovada will offer prop and match-up wagering on the big race, and of course wagers can be placed on every sport, and Bovada has a poker room and casino for non-stop betting action.
